REMINDER ABOUT CAMPAIGN SIGNS

With the upcoming elections, please note the regulations relating to campaign signs. All signs are prohibited from being in the public right of way. Candidates are responsible for sign placement.

Pursuant to Minnesota Statutes, 211B.045  any size sign in any number may be posted beginning 45 days before the state primary in a state general election until 10 days following the state general election.

Pursuant to Minnesota Statutes, 160.2715  advertising signs (paint, print, place or affix of any object) are prohibited within the right of way, except as authorized by the state.

Pursuant to City Code, 1040.28, Subd 4-5, below, private signs are prohibited within the public right of way.

Subd. 4. Private Signs. Private signs are prohibited within the public right-of-way of any street or easement.

Subd. 5. State & Federal Right-of Ways. All signs on State and Federal highways right- of-way shall conform to State and Federal sign regulations.

Pursuant to City Code, 1040.28, Subd 6, K. Political signs are allowed in any district on private property with the consent of the owner of the property. Such signs must be removed within seven (7) days following the date of election or elections to which said signs applied.

Election law prohibits the display of campaign signs on election day within 100 feet of a polling place.
