Fire Department

The mission of the Blue Earth Fire Department is grounded in professionalism, teamwork, and a steadfast commitment to serving the community during times of need.

The Blue Earth Fire Department has proudly served the City of Blue Earth and the surrounding rural communities since its founding in 1891. For more than 130 years, the department has remained dedicated to protecting life, preserving property, and promoting the safety and wellbeing of the community through comprehensive emergency response, fire prevention, and public safety education.

The department is comprised of approximately 30 highly trained volunteer firefighters who respond to a wide range of emergency incidents, including structure fires, wildland fires, medical assists, motor vehicle accidents, rescue operations, and hazardous conditions. Members of the department bring diverse skills, experience, and a shared commitment to collaborative public safety service. The department also recognizes and sincerely appreciates the support of local employers who enable volunteer firefighters to leave their places of work to respond to emergencies, making this level of service possible.

As a volunteer fire department, we take great pride in our strong tradition of service and our close connection to the community we protect. Fire protection and emergency response are provided both within the city limits and throughout the surrounding rural areas, including Blue Earth Township, Jo Daviess Township, Pilot Grove Township, Prescott Township, and Verona Township. The department works in coordination with neighboring fire departments, as well as local and county emergency services agencies, to ensure an effective and unified response to any incident.

The Blue Earth Fire Department maintains a strong commitment to operational readiness through ongoing training, the responsible maintenance and effective use of existing apparatus and equipment, and adherence to Minnesota fire service requirements, and nationally recognized standards, including best practices for firefighter training, safety, and emergency response operations. Like many rural departments, the Blue Earth Fire Department operates with aging equipment while placing a strong emphasis on firefighter safety and operational readiness. The fire department remains dedicated to delivering reliable service and pursuing improvements that enhance safe and effective emergency response.

Firefighting is a meaningful and rewarding opportunity to serve others, develop practical skills, and be part of a dedicated rural volunteer fire department team committed to protecting the community. Applicants must be prepared to meet the expectations of the position, including participation in training and emergency response activities, and are expected to demonstrate accountability, reliability, and a strong commitment to the responsibilities of the department.
