Giant Days Brings the Community Together Once Again
Another Giant Days has come and gone, and once again Blue Earth welcomed residents, visitors, and families for one of the community's favorite weekends of the summer.
From the medallion hunt to live music, family activities and a busy downtown, there was no shortage of things to do. Even with temperatures climbing into the 90s, people showed up ready to celebrate everything that makes Blue Earth special.
This year's event included a few new attractions that were a hit with attendees. A mobile metal art lab let visitors create their own miniature Blue Earth Giant, while a video game trailer and barrel train rides quickly became favorites for kids. Longtime traditions like the parade, Water Wars, the classic car show, community market, garden tours, fireworks, and the Giant Days 5K once again brought people together throughout the weekend.
One of the biggest highlights came Saturday night when Steel Prairie took the stage. Organizers said the band drew one of the largest crowds they've seen in recent years, with people filling the dance floor, singing along, and wrapping up the weekend with plenty of energy.
"This is exactly what we hope for," said committee member Tharen Haugh. "We want Giant Days to keep the traditions people look forward to every year while adding something new that gives them a reason to come back."
While the celebration lasts just a few days, planning starts almost as soon as the previous year's event ends. The Giant Days committee spends months coordinating entertainment, vendors, activities, volunteers, and countless behind-the-scenes details. After the weekend wraps up, the group meets again to talk about what went well, what could be improved, and ideas for next year.
"We're fortunate to have a great committee," said Chamber Director Sarah Ferguson. "It truly takes a team. There are so many volunteers, businesses, sponsors, organizations, and community members who donate their time, energy, and resources to make Giant Days happen."
The hot weather didn't seem to slow anyone down. The parade drew large crowds Saturday morning, vendors stayed busy throughout the day, families cooled off during Water Wars, and many returned later that evening to enjoy the live entertainment.
As another Giant Days comes to a close, it's a reminder that the weekend is about more than just the events on the schedule. It's about neighbors catching up, families making memories, welcoming visitors to town, and celebrating the community that makes Blue Earth such a special place.
Most importantly, organizers say Giant Days wouldn't be possible without the people who make it happen.
Whether you volunteered, sponsored an event, performed, ran a booth, marched in the parade, or simply came out to enjoy the weekend, thank you for helping make another Giant Days a success. We look forward to doing it all again next year.
